3 POWERFUL SECRETS TO A SUCCESS MASSAGE PRACTICE WITHIN A CHIROPRACTIC OFFICE

by Drs. Angela and Rafael Lopez, DCs

Have you been thinking about moving your massage practice to a chiropractor’s office? Are you wondering how that would work and be beneficial to everyone? Are you tired of working alone? Ready to connect with your tribe and help the community and the world?

IT STARTS WITH IMAGINATION

Imagine...your next client arrives. She’s pregnant and referred to you by the chiropractor where you rent space and share a receptionist. Or it’s a long-time client of the clinic, and it’s his first time with you. You feel thankful and give a loving massage.

You know the power of chiropractic and massage together to smooth the way to wellness. And you have seen the chiropractic and massage work to reconnect the body and the spirit to bring healthy balance. You offer support to your clients to help them do their part in their own health care. Your clients thank you and pay without question. They promise to tell their friends and family about you and the chiropractic clinic.

How can you attract and create such a wonderful situation?

SECRET #1: COLLABORATION

A successful massage practice that is located within a chiropractic office depends on collaboration with the chiropractors and their staff. When a client is referred to you, be sure you understand what treatment the chiropractor has recommended, and create massages and client conversation that supports the chiropractor.

DON’T: offer advice against what the chiropractor says, or suggest that massage could replace chiropractic care. In a collaborative environment, various therapies will contribute to overall client health.

SECRET #2: LOVE CHIROPRACTIC CARE YOURSELF

The secret to good collaboration with a chiropractor is that you love chiropractic yourself. You’ve probably been seeing a chiropractor for years, and maybe you’ve already worked in a chiropractic office.

You know that it’s the combination of massage and chiropractic that creates the masterpiece of health that your clients are looking for. Massage works the soft tissues, while chiropractic works with bones and nerves. You have experience seeing the wonderful results from this process. Loving chiropractic care makes it easier to communicate with the chiropractor, staff and patients, and stay on the same page.

SECRET #3: KEEP GOOD BUSINESS AND MARKETING PRACTICES

The third secret is often overlooked as unnecessary, boring, tedious and taking you away from your clients. But it’s essential to your success. You need good communication skills and attention to details. This especially important when you are an independent contractor working in a chiropractor’s office.

Be sure you know how much it costs to have the chiropractor’s receptionist book a client for you, so you can feel gratitude when a client is referred to you. Keep track of your bookkeeping and taxes. And make sure your massage license is current.

Participate in marketing events with the chiropractic office, and create your own marketing efforts. Remember, you are not an employee of the office. You are an independent contractor, and you are legally responsible for bringing in your own clients.

Whenever problems arise, communicate quickly and clearly with the chiropractor. Be sure to state what the problem is. Don’t just complain. Always include a solution or two that will work for you. Be patient as you move through the resolution process, and give loving-kindness.

DON’T: speak badly about anyone in the office or gossip with clients.
